Each piece I create originates from a carving. Carving fills me with energy and brings life to my work. It also challenges my perfectionism by pushing me to accept mistakes and strive to make something special out of them.
Starting out, I experimented with carving digitally (because I was a new mother and babies and knives don’t mix). When my son was old enough, I found the gumption to carve real things with real knives and it feels amazing and right to me. Looking at an empty block or surface, my approach to creating is What can I take away to reveal the light? Creating brings light to my life and I hope that light shines in my work.
Based near Athens, GA, inspiration for my work comes from nostalgic memories of growing up in rural Georgia as well as local scenery.
